Rules & Regulations
At Retarded Arts, we take compliance and ethics seriously. All contributors must follow our rules and regulations for published content. These policies help us maintain our values and standards.
Articles must not promote illegal activity, copyright infringement, hate speech, or libelous content. We will not publish content that is intentionally misleading or factually inaccurate. Writers are expected to uphold principles of honesty, integrity, and accountability. Violating our rules and regulations will result in a permanent ban from publication.
Article Submission Guidelines
We accept article submissions between 500-1000 words on topics related to disabilities, neurodiversity, inclusion, or using humor to discuss sensitive topics. Submissions should be sent to [email protected] in a Word document or Google Docs format.
Please include a short bio (2-3 sentences) about yourself with credentials and relevant experience. This will be published with your articles.
Articles must be well-researched with citations included where applicable. We fact check pieces before publishing. Submissions must be original – no plagiarized or repurposed content from other sources.
Photo Submission and Requirements
If your article has accompanying photos, ensure you have rights to use them or they are licensed under Creative Commons. Photos should be high resolution JPGs or PNGs minimum 800×600 pixels. Provide photo credits and permissions in your email submission if required.
Photos containing offensive, illegal, or copyrighted material will not be accepted. Images will be edited to fit our blog theme and layout.
Submission & Approval
After submitting your article, please allow up to 2 weeks for our editorial team to review and respond. We will notify you if your piece is accepted as-is, accepted with revisions, or does not meet our current needs.
If accepted, we will provide timeline for publication. We reserve the right to edit articles for length, clarity, accuracy, and style consistency. You will have a chance to review edits before publication.
Credentials
Please include any credentials, backgrounds, or affiliations relevant to your writing experience and expertise. Our readers appreciate context on the authors.
However, lived experience is equally valid to formal credentials for many topics. We welcome perspectives from diverse backgrounds.
