Does your home suffer from unwanted pests but you do not want to use chemicals that can harm you and your family? Take a look at some of these natural home remedies that actually work! We tried them out ourselves! They’re simple to make and are really effective in getting rid of bugs and other pests. As an added bonus, they’re also cheap and easy to put together!

Essential Oils

essential-oilsIf you have bed bugs sleeping with you every night, you may want to give this natural home remedy a try. All you have to do is mix a concoction of Lavender, Peppermint and Eucalyptus essential oils. Pour this into a spray bottle and spray lightly on your bed and pillows. Allow the mixture to air dry. Bed bugs absolutely hate the smell of these oils and will crawl away.

Essential oils also work well as a fleas and lice repellent. Try mixing some Lemongrass and Basil essential oils and spray generously on your pets. Watch the fleas jump right off!

Coffee

This is not a widely known fact but ants absolutely hate the smell of coffee!! That’s fantastic news for coffee drinkers as you can easily sprinkle your used coffee grounds in areas where ants are aplenty. Try to follow the ants to their nest and pour a whole load of coffee grounds there. Spritz water on the coffee grounds every couple of days to keep them smelling strong and thus increasing their efficacy against ants.

Borax and Sugar

borax-and-washing-sodaIf coffee grounds do not work for you, try a mixture of borax and sugar. Simply mix equal parts sugar and borax and sprinkle them wherever you see ants. The ants will come and eat the sugar and inadvertently eat the borax as well. Some of the ants will even bring the mixture back to the colony thinking that it is food. This is one of the best ways to get rid of ants in your home, as shown here. The borax will slowly poison the ants and this will destroy their entire colony.

Organic Garlic-Mint Bug Spray

This is especially for all you gardeners out there. This 100% organic spray is so easy to put together and once sprayed on your garden, your vegetables and fruits will be left flourishing with not a single pest in sight! All you have to do is blend mint leaves with some garlic cloves. Add a dash of cayenne pepper and some dishwashing liquid. Boil the mixture and strain it. Pour into a spray bottle and spray where needed.

Pepper spray

This is a spicy remedy for pests in the garden. Boil some cayenne pepper in water and allow the mixture to cool for a day. You can then strain the mixture and pour it into a spray bottle. Just spray some around your garden patch and you will no longer have unwanted pests eating up your greens!

Apple Cider Vinegar

Don’t you just hate fruit flies? They come and buzz in your ear as you are trying to enjoy a picnic with family and friends. A simple natural solution is to make an apple cider vinegar fruit fly trap! All you need is a bottle with a funnel shaped top which allows the fruit flies to fly in but cannot fly out. Any type of shaker bottle works just as well. The fruit flies will be attracted to the smell of the vinegar and fly into the bottle thus being trapped.

Chop up some fruits such as apples and throw them into the bottle which has already been filled with apple cider vinegar. Screw on the funnel cap and place the bottle where you see plenty of fruit flies.
